From the 1st to the 3rd of April, the beautiful Marina d’Arechi will play host to the first Ocean Racing championship in Campania, organised by the local Italian Sailing Federation committee.
The initiative, which follows the agreement between the parties reached during the Salerno boat show, will be organised with the help of the Salerno sailing clubs: the Circolo Canottieri Irno, the Club Velico Salernitano, the Compagnia della Vela di Salerno, the Lega Navale di Agropoli and the Lega Navale di Salerno.
The event is much anticipated as it will gather together vessels from fleets along the entire coastline of Campania which have been taking part in various regattas in the Winter Championships in the Bay of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno.
The organisational challenge is significant and will require great effort on the part of the various teams and crews, with at least 5 competitions each over the course of 3 days.
For Francesco Lo Schiavo, president of the Local Italian Sailing Federation Committee, “This first edition is intended to allow the various fleets in Campania to measure up against one another, and is the only event which places newly qualified teams alongside those who have won many prizes. We are expecting, for example, the participation of Scugnizza, a vessel which won the world championships in 2012 and 2013.
“It is a matter of pride for the Salerno Sailing clubs,” commented Fabrizio Marotta President of the Lega Navale Italiana di Salerno and representative of the organising committee “to host this prestigious event. We are certain that the stunning backdrop of the Coast alongside the high level of participating vessels and crews will make this a show to remember”.
“We are delighted to be able to work with the Italian Saling Federation,” noted the President of Marina d’Arechi, Agostino Gallozzi. “In particular on the first edition of such an important regatta for the Campania area. Our Marina, which is one of the most modern structures of its kind in the Mediterranean, has all of the characteristics needed to become a point of reference for sailing enthusiasts. We hope for as many people as possible to participate in the competitions and are certain that the infrastructure and geographical location of the Marina will not disappoint”.
The press conference will be held on the 23rd of March in the Sala del Gonfalone in Salerno Town Hall. Further information will be available during prizegiving at the Winter Championship Regattas in the Bay of Naples.
