The history of our Company started in 1952 when my father Giuseppe (Joe) GALLOZZI, M.B.E., decided to move from Naples to Salerno to establish his own Company. He came from a shipping background, his family was involved in the Naples shipping fraternity, but he had long realized that most of the goods being shipped there originated from the Salerno area. At that time road transport was difficult, there were no motorways, goods were still moved by horses and even a relatively short distance meant a full days travel. With this in mind our founder established our Company in Salerno. In 1952 Giuseppe Gallozzi founded his Company on the following principles: - Close to the market and to the customers; - Having a spirit of innovation. We still respect his original principles today, and we will continue to do so in the future. In 1952 our founder moved closer to the customers and the customers moved their cargo to Salerno. Since then we have understood that it is not only important to be geographically close to the customers' and Salerno as a port is ideally located - but above all to be close to the customer's requirements. This has been and will always be our main working philosophy. And this is achieved by using our spirit of innovation, because our customers requirements are always changing and we are prepared to change with them. In 1952 Giuseppe Gallozzi had the firm belief that the development of the South of Italy depended to a great extent extent on foreign markets and that these were better served by sea. He was right and he was able to demonstrate that Salerno was able to cope with his belief. Immediately cargo started moving trough our port which grew and grew and grew. And our spirit of innovation enabled our Company to move from conventional loose cargo, to palletized cargo and then to container traffic, always thinking ahead, always ready to serve.To serve the shipping lines by offering efficiency and reliability fast vessel turn around, guaranteed berthing and productivity at very competitive rates. To serve the traders, exporters and importers, being able to be more competitive on the international markets by using our Company's services and the Port of Salerno.
Trough the years this has been the key to our seccess story and the cargo flow has kept increasing from 40,000 teus handles in 1990 to over 320,000 teus in 2001. Salerno is the right port in the right location. We will certainly change in the future, but we will never change our original principles: Our understanding of the market, our motivation to serve, our spirit of innovation.
